Fully Recess

The Recessed door is a single rigid panel, a rectangular frame with cladding attached. As it opens the door lays back at the top (retreating into the doorway) and rises vertically from the bottom. It continues to pivot backward and upward until achieving the open (horizontal) position. The door panel has no external projection while opening or closing.

The most common application for Recessed doors is apartment building car parks where the doorway lies just inside the property boundary.Being a single-leaf and counterweight balanced the Recessed door has few moving parts and low operational loading.

These factors result in high reliability with minimal maintenance, even at very high rates of operation.

The Recessed door is custom built for each specific application.
Its design includes consideration for:
-Operational requirements
-Opening dimensions
-Self weight and wind loading
-Architectural design
Thus, it is important to accurately measure the opening and adequately specify architectural and operational requirements. Usually our representative will work through any requirements and take full responsibility for measuring the opening.

The door frame is typically constructed from hollow, rectangular, steel sections. These provide high strength and rigidity with low weight. Tracks and complementary are fabricated from steel sections.

The standard finish is a two pack paint system, powder coating may also be available depending on frame size and colour. Hot dip galvanizing is often specified where corrosive environments or seaside locations necessitate.

The door can be designed to accept a wide variety of cladding and glazing materials.

  • Toughened or laminated glass, including double glazed units

  • Composite panelling

  • Common sheet-metal wall or roof cladding

  • Rigid plastic sheeting

  • Thermally insulated wall panelling

Where ventilation is important (eg. underground car parks) vertical or horizontal bar-grilles or perforated sheet-metal are commonly specified.

The Recessed door requires operational clearances as well as permanent space for its accommodation. These dimensions vary depending on the application, door size and weight.
The Recessed door is installed with tracks behind the opening nibs. The door is positioned behind the opening and has very little external projection as it moves.
For any Recessed door installation, nib-room, head-room and the movement of the door must be taken into account.

The Recessed door is automated by the use of:

  • A drive unit, which includes a torque limiter and independent limit switches

  • Vertical and horizontal motorisation tracks

  • An overhead drive shaft, between tracks

  • A control system, which may include safety features such as photo beams, loop detectors etc.

When a power operated Recessed door is ordered these items are included as integral components of the door.
Motorisation may be fitted to an existing manual door, but this may require extensive modification.

Locking is normally provided on manual operated doors only.

Pad bolts are fitted internally/externally to allow the door to be latched in the closed position. These can be fitted with padlocks for additional security.

Motorised doors are usually locked via the drive unit, however additional security is available by incorporating powered mechanical or magnetic locks.
